Maragen™ is extracted from Ascophyllum nodosum, a brown seaweed. Our research examines how it affects dermal papilla cells, which sit at the base of the hair follicle and help regulate hair growth.
Laboratory research
What the studies measured
Maragen™ was tested in dermal papilla cells. Researchers measured changes in cell proliferation and markers associated with follicle structure and activity. These results come from laboratory cell studies of Maragen™. They do not measure hair growth, thickness or reduced shedding in people taking ST¹.

An increase in cell proliferation, a measure of cells multiplying.
02. Structural Molecules
194% Strength
An increase in glycosaminoglycan production. These molecules, known as GAGs, contribute to the environment surrounding follicle cells.
03. Follicle activity marker

An increase in alkaline phosphatase activity, a marker associated with the hair follicle’s growth phase.

Understanding the hair growth cycle
Each follicle follows its own cycle of growth, transition, rest and shedding.

Anagen
Growth Phase
2–7 Years
The hair actively grows from the root. Around 85–90% of scalp hairs are in this phase at any one time.

Catagen
Transition Phase
2–3 Weeks
Growth stops and the hair follicle begins to shrink and detach from the blood supply. The hair is no longer actively growing.

Telogen
Resting Phase
2-4 Months
The hair is fully formed but no longer growing. It remains in the follicle while a new hair begins to develop beneath it. Around 10–15% of hairs are in this phase.

Exogen
Shedding Phase
Timing Varies
The old hair is released and sheds, making way for a new hair to enter the anagen phase. Shedding 50–100 hairs per day is normal.
